Thejasmineswerejustbloomingintheporch.

Iroamedaroundlikeawelcomedguest,

Throughthesumptuouslyfurnishedparlor,

andintotheetherealdivingroom.

EverythingIrememberedandleftinoblivionweresurelythere.

OnlysilencewaspresentuntilIplayedPathétiqueonthreepianos,

SomethingIthoughtcouldnothavebeendonepoorerthanthen.

“Thisonedoesn’twork”,agirltalkedthroughtheroom,

Whowasasstartledasmeatthisunexpectedguest,

Butwhodeservedmorethanjustaguest.

HeralmondshapedeyeswereprettyyetnottheonesI’vebeheld,

Scarcetracesofwearyleftherhairtousled.

Herinsouciantvoicebeganansweringmyquestions,

Amidsttheechoingthegarageopened,

Shepromisedmeataleshewouldnevertell,

AndquicklyIhidbehindawall.

Youreyesmetminesorthechirpingbirdsnestingontrees,

Andjeopardizedasecretkeptsowellbypushingthedoor.

“Run!”Iheardshewhisperunderherbreath,

ThereImountedthefenceandbikedlikeamadRottweiler,

Acrossthewoodsandforestslikemanyrealdreamdestinedtoshatter,

Inwhichhopesarethatmymindwouldneverstayawoken.
